The Story of Kunta

The journey began in 2001, under the name
"nazlıdeniznazlı," followed by a series of
creative studios I established in Istanbul and
Izmir: "otonom atölye," "hezarfen," and
"konstantiniyye." In 2013, I continued under the
name that felt most true to the soul of the craft
- Kunta.

Driven by the decision to carve my own path, I
started by handcrafting earrings from scrap
leather pieces sourced from local tanneries.
Guided purely by imagination, this process soon
expanded into a wider range of handmade
accessories.

In 2010, I took a significant step forward by
enrolling in the Ceramics Department at ÇOMÜ
Faculty of Fine Arts. It was here that form met
technique: I began adding drawings through the
burning technique, then moved on to working
with natural vegetable dyes on raw leather. This
transformation turned Kunta into something
beyond a leather brand - it became a wearable
expression of art and individuality.
